Parade organizers hope for the same favorable weather other Christmas events have had this year, but make some last minute Parade changes
So far in this Christmas season, New Albany has been blessed with good weather for a variety of Holiday events, (including the Turkey to Tinsel Downtown shopping event in video below). Nearing Thanksgiving Day, though, weather conditions for the Monday December 1st Christmas Parade were looking dubious.
Organizers promised to make a decision by Thanksgiving Evening’s Turkey to Tinsel event, and have announced plans to go ahead with the original date. However, changes have been made to parade logistics in hopes of staying ahead of incoming wet weather.
Parade participants will still line up at the soccer fields and parking area at the tennis complex.
- Bands, ROTC, Walkers & Horses will line up across fronm NAPA and merge into parade as it goes by.
- Floats/trucks/cars/other will go to soccer parking lot & be lined up in order of arrival.
- All others will be lined up in the gravel parking lot in the order which they arrive.
- At 6PM Lead first responders, police, officials & Marshalls will begin moving to front where ROTC & first band will merge into line to begin paraade at 6:30.
Parked vehicles in the downtown area will be cleared by police between 5:30 -6:00 p.m.
A new parade route will go from the west side of the Zack Stewart Bridge across the Tallahatchie River and through downtown New Albany. It will make a turn on to South Central Ave. and then onto Main St. westward to the Carter St. itersection, where it will end.
Bankhead Street intersections at Moss Hill Dr., Main St., McGill St., Railroad Ave., Camp Ave and South Central Avenue will be closed. Main St. to Carter Ave will be closed for the safety of pedestrians.
The members of the New Albany Garden Club will be Grand Marshalls of the parade, and will all ride in a special vehicle courtesy of Toyota Motor Manufacturing of Mississippi.
