Pastor Johnny L. Jointer, 71
April 9, 1953 – February 21, 2025
Johnny Louis Jointer was born April 9, 1953 to the late Alice Peal Jointer in Copiah County, Mississippi. He was the second child of three children. He professed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He attended school at Parrish High School in Copiah County, Mississippi.
Johnny was a man that believed in work. He had many jobs in his life that included working on the railroad (which came with many stories), and being a groundskeeper at the football field at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Around this time, he answered the Lord’s call to spread His word. This was a well-suited task since he knew no strangers.
After moving to North Mississippi, he was blessed to become the pastor of Chapel Grove Church in Okolona, Mississippi, then of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Nettleton, Mississippi, where he pastored and befriended the congregation until his passing.
Johnny loved people, especially children. He could put a smile on their faces, and this brought a smile and pleasure to him. He loved flowers, yard work, gardening, and sharing the fruit of his labor, both physical and spiritual. He also helped at the food pantry in Nettleton, Mississippi whenever he could.
He was united in matrimony to Doris Kelly, and to this union three children were born. After moving to North Mississippi, he met Grace Cousin of Houlka, Mississippi. They married in July of 1999, and he gained three step-sons.
Pastor Johnny Louis Jointer went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2025.
He leaves to cherish and honor his memory his children, Frederick D. Jointer, Christopher J. Jointer, and Priscilla Floyd of Wesson, MS; stepsons, Vincent (Beverly) Cousin of Woodland, MS, Emerson (Shirley) Cousin, Jr. of Houlka, MS, and Jarvis (Victoria) Cousin of Houlka, MS; a sister, Alice R. Jointer of Wesson, MS; two sisters-in-law, Laventia (Albert) Rayford of Houlka, MS and Delois Love of Houlka, MS; thirteen grandchildren, Kendrick (Jessica) Brown, Dontrel Brown, KaDazia Brown, Frederick Jointer, Jr., Jayden Jointer, Catherine Jointer, Shakita McGregory, Vincent Lamar Cousin, Victoria Cousin, Jaylen Walker, Kimya Cousin, Zackery Cousin, and Messiah Armstrong; five great grandchildren, Carson Brown, Dantae T.
