Patricia Whittle, 88

August 10, 1935 – July 9, 2024

TUPELO – Patricia Whittle, after a long fruitful and purposed filled life, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at her residence in Tupelo, She was 88 years old. Patricia was the only child born August 10, 1935 in Vardaman to the late Smith Wilson and Corinne Evans Wilson. She graduated from Vardaman High School in l953 and attended Delta State College in Cleveland where she earned a BA in Elementary Education. On December 20, 1956, she married Evans Whittle in Vardaman, a marriage of 67 years. The Whittles spent most of their lives in either Calhoun County, Jackson, or Tupelo, moving here in the mid-1980’s. Mr. Whittle had a illustrious career with Mississippi Valley Gas Company (now Atmos) until his retirement. “Miss” Pat taught elementary education in Kilmichael and later served as a teacher in Church Schools in Jackson including teaching music. As her boys came along, she became the consummate mother and master housewife/ homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed singing in the Choir and serving in other capacities at First Baptist Church-Tupelo where she and Evans were longtime members before their health began to fail. She was known for the beautiful flowers she raised in her garden.



A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 AM to 11 AM Friday only at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo which is honored to be serving their friends.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Evans Whittle of Tupelo; her two sons, Timothy Evans Whittle (Michelle) of Tupelo and William Daniel Whittle (Michelle) of Columbus; grandchildren, Jordan Chammas (Mark), Jillian Powell (Steven), Cameron Whittle (Ann Caroline), and Kayne Graves (Jake); great-grandchildren, Ava Chammas, Maddie Powell, Noah Powell, Elijah Powell, and Charlotte Graves; and nieces Lynn Smith (Wayne) and Lanelle Vanhorn.

Pallbearers will be her sons, Tim and Bill Whittle, Cameron Whittle and Jake Graves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Ferguson and Shane Smith.
