Please, get a damn sense of humor!

Major news organizations reported Thursday the comment presidential aspirant Ben Carson gave about the failed “transgender rights” proposal in Houston, Texas.

“How about we have a transgender bathroom?” Carson is said to have responded.

Carson’s rhetorical question brought a scathing rebuke from a gay activist group in New York:

“Ben Carson’s hateful comments are out of touch and all candidates should immediately make clear that they disavow his dangerously transphobic views,” said Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin.

We have a national debt of $18-trillion and growing. Muslim fanatics are trying to set the world aflame. Hundreds of thousands of college graduates can’t find jobs that meet their expectations. And this is an issue we need to deal with in a presidential campaign?

We do not, of course, believe Ben Carson seriously wants the country to spend billions to build a third classification of rest rooms in every public building in America. He was clearly and appropriately responding with irony.

In that same vein (and please don’t call us “insensitive”), we got to wondering about what we might call all these new transgender bathrooms. We could have “Gentlemen” and “Ladies” and “Not Sure.” Or should the new public toilets be labeled “Undecided” or “Confused” or “Vague” or “Ambivalent?”

If Angry Chad in New York wants to label us “hateful” and “out of touch,” we have only this to say to him and his cohorts :  “Get a damned sense of humor, Dude (or Dudette or whatever)!”
