Raymond Dominic Smith, known affectionately as Raymond to friends and family, passed away peacefully at his residence in Oxford, MS, on February 10, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on May 17, 1950, in Cleveland, MS, he was a son to the late Leonard Dale “LD” Smith, Sr. and Rosemary Auletti Smith. Raymond was a cherished brother to Diana Schubach (Mike) and Charles Smith (Sharon), and an adored uncle to five nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his brothers Gene Smith and Leonard Dale “Little LD” Smith, Jr.
A proud veteran, Raymond retired from the U.S. Navy with distinction. Post his naval career, he worked diligently for the U.S. Corps of Engineers, where he continued to showcase his work ethic and commitment to service. Raymond’s discipline extended into his personal life where he advocated for healthy living, thoroughly enjoying his days playing pickleball and maintaining a rigorous workout routine. A man of very few words, Raymond’s actions resonated deeply, exemplifying his intelligence and wisdom.
Those who knew Raymond understood the weight of his words and the depth of his insights. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength and sage guidance, remembered fondly by his loving family and all who were privileged to cross paths with him. Raymond will be deeply missed but his influence and the memories shared will undeniably live on.
A visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at United Funeral Service from 11:00 a.m. until memorial service time at 12:00 p.m. United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.
