Rebecca Vaughn Harris, 80
December 10, 1944 – July 25, 2025
Rebecca Vaughn Harris of Tupelo, Mississippi departed this life peacefully on July 25, 2025 at Traceway Retirement Community. She was born on December 10, 1944 to the late Tres Van Vaughn, Sr. and Ethelene Bailey Vaughn in Pontotoc, Mississippi.
Rebecca graduated from Pontotoc Attendance Center in May 1965.
Rebecca was united in holy matrimony to Thomas R. Harris for 57 years, and together they were blessed with three daughters: Shelia, Patreas, and Tandalaya. She served diligently as a wife, mother, and a caregiver to her father and mother-in-law, where she cared for them until their death.
Rebecca was a beloved grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend whose legacy of kindness, faith, and service touched countless lives. She was known for her smile, laughter, strong conversation, and telling it like she saw it.
Rebecca accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Chesterville where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a member of the Usher Board, WIA (Women in Action Ministry), Graduation Committee, actively participated in Sunday School, Kitchen Committee and served over the Pastor’s Aid Committee. She was also dedicated to her favorite seat at the church.
Rebecca was a volunteer at the Regional Rehabilitation Center – Tupelo, and a member of North Mississippi Wellness Center Aquatic group. She enjoyed swimming, fishing, working in her flower garden, traveling, and bingo. She was also well-known for her sweet potato pies and chocolate pies.
Rebecca retired from Cooper Tire, where she worked in bead processing for more than 20 years.
Rebecca leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband Thomas Harris; three daughters, Shelia Nabors (John) and Patreas Frazier – Tupelo, MS, Tandalaya Traylor (Stephen) – Booneville, MS; 5 grandchildren: John Thomas Nabors, Janson Nabors, Joshua Nabors, Raigan Frazier, and Champ Traylor; 3 great-grandchildren: Isaiah Nabors, Isabella Nabors, and Ilijah Nabors; 3 loving siblings: Othela Vaughn, James Vaughn (Susie), Ella Vaughn; a special niece – Ida Hereford (Carl); her in-laws: George Harris (Claudia), Charles Harris (Dorothy) and Prentiss Harris (Brenda); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Tres Van Vaughn, Sr. and Ethelene Vaughn; sisters: Nina Mae Vaughn, Viella Vaughn-Banks, Mary A. Pulliam, Effie Ray Vaughn, Annie Mae Jones, and Annie Williams; brothers: James Vaughn, Tres Van Vaughn, Jr., Robert Box, and Eugene Vaughn, Sr.; one grandson: Isaiah Frazier; one great grandson: Jeremiah T. Nabors.
Rebecca’s unwavering faithfulness and compassion for others were deeply appreciated and will be remembered by all who knew her.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant MB Church Chesterville, 242 Mt. Pleasant Road, Belden, MS 38826. Funeral service will be Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant MB Church Chesterville.
