Reed’s Market in late stages of renovation, to open soon
Building renovation and equipment installation in moving forward on the large retail space on the south side of the 200 block of West Bankhead St.
One of the contractors at the building in New Albany told NAnewsweb.com that a large grocery store, Reed’s Market, is expected to be open for business by July 4th.
Originally built and opened as a Food World by the now defunct Bruno’s company of Birmingham in the 1990s, the building has about 52,000 square feet under roof. The Reed’s store is expected to occupy around 35,000 square feet of the space.
The building has had several tenants since Bruno’s left it including a supermarket and a farm coop business. It was briefly used as a training center by Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County.
Building permit applications on file at New Albany City Hall, indicate that more than $500-thousand is being spent to convert the space for the Reed’s Market.
