Richard Palmer, 71

July 29, 1953 – April 24, 2025

Richard Ervin Palmer, a man of spirited nature and boundless energy, passed away on April 24, 2025, after a valiant battle with a long illness. Born on July 29, 1953, in New Albany, MS, Richard’s life was a tapestry of hard work, playful mischief, and deep love for his family.

Richard left this world from the comfort of his residence, surrounded by the memories he cherished and the family he adored. His journey through life was marked by his outspoken nature and a knack for bringing a spark of joy and aggravation in equal measure to those around him.

He is survived by a loving family that includes his mother, Jewel Mayzell Payne Palmer; his wife, Debra Williams Palmer; his daughters, Tonya Higgins, Ginger Howell (Steve), Katrina Uribe, Jennifer Uribe, and Cary Hester; his sister, Wilma Cobb (Cary); and his brother, Carl Palmer. Richard’s legacy continues through his nine grandchildren, C.J. Swinford, Michael Swinford, Ihy Uribe, Violet Parham, Justin Romero, Jai Romero, Corbin Romero, Kristen Sanders, and Hunter Howell, and four great-grandchild, Danica Romero, Austin Howell, Carter Sanders, and Nicholas Sanders, who will all miss his larger-than-life presence.

Preceding him in death were his father, Willie Palmer; his brother, Carl Palmer; his son, Wayne Palmer; and his grandchild, Chasity Roberts. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he carried their memories with him every day.

Throughout his working career, Richard embraced a variety of roles, including factory work, truck driving, and being a mechanic. His hands were rarely still, and he found pleasure in being outside, often working on projects with a humorous outcome of breaking more than fixing.

Richard Palmer’s zest for life and his love for his grandchildren were the cornerstones of his existence. He lived fully, spoke his mind, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His story is one of a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.
