Robert “Danny” Wooley, 74

After a life well lived — one devoted to his family, the simple joys of listening to the dogs howl and the foxes run, and marked by quiet strength through his courageous battle with cancer — Robert “Danny” Wooley, age 74, entered into the promises of his dear Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday night, October 19, 2025, with the love and care of his family surrounding him until the very end.

A man of steadfast faith and enduring spirit, Danny faced each day with gratitude, humor, and resilience. His life was a reflection of his love for God, his devotion to family, and his appreciation for the peaceful rhythm of country life — where nature, family, and faith intertwined to tell the story of a good man’s journey home.

Funeral services with full military honors remembering Mr. Danny’s well-lived life will be at 3 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2025, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home, with visitation from 11 AM until time of service. Bro. Keith Cobb will officiate, and interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.

Born at home in the New Hope community on December 1, 1950, Mr. Danny was the beloved son of the late Robert Harold and Alice Maude Hall Wooley. He grew up in the close-knit New Hope community, receiving his education from Blue Mountain High School.

While in high school, one night through a twist of fate, Mr. Danny met the love of his life, Miss Lynn Jumper, and what began as a young romance soon blossomed into a lifelong bond. After being drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, the two married on April 25, 1969, just before he was set to depart for his service in Korea. Their love endured the distance and challenges of military life, laying the foundation for a marriage that would span more than five and a half decades — one built on laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion. When Mr. Danny returned home, he and Lynn began the life they had dreamed of together, raising three beloved daughters who were the light and pride of his heart. His girls remember a father who was steady and strong, yet tender and loving — a man who led by quiet example rather than loud words, always encouraging them with his familiar reminder, “make me a 100,” in everything they did.

A man of great work ethic, Mr. Danny devoted over twenty years alongside his father-in-law with Concrete Builders, where he ran a dragline for the construction of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. He later dedicated another twenty years to Blue Mountain Trucking, serving as one of the last diesel mechanics before the company’s closure and continuing to drive for Profile before officially retiring.

A Christian and member of the Methodist faith, Mr. Danny was baptized at a young age and kept Jesus Christ at the heart of all he did. His quiet faith was steady and sure, lived out through his actions, his work, and his love for his family.

In younger years, he enjoyed drag racing and anything to do with spending time with family, but his truest passion was fox hunting. As a proud charter member of the Hell Creek Hunting Club, Mr. Danny became well-known and deeply respected in the fox hunting community. His skill and love for the sport earned him recognition, including being featured on the cover of National Fox Hunter Magazine and winning multiple adult champion titles. Yet, in classic Danny fashion, he remained humble, letting his accomplishments speak for themselves, often with a sly grin and a witty remark that left everyone laughing.

When not out at the pens or in the woods, Mr. Danny could most often be found in his famous recliner, tuned in to FOX News, with a dog settled comfortably in his lap. His home was his haven — a place filled with warmth, laughter, and love. He cherished family gatherings, holiday dinners, and quiet evenings at home with Lynn. Mr. Danny especially loved company dropping by, and anyone who visited was made to feel right at home. He enjoyed good conversation, a little storytelling, and a few laughs before parting with his trademark send-off — “Well, I’m glad you got to see me.” Whether surrounded by his daughters and grandchildren or simply sharing a cup of coffee with friends who stopped in, Mr. Danny found contentment in the moments that truly mattered.

Those who knew him will remember his gentle grin, his simple sense of humor, and his steadfast spirit. He was a man of his word—loyal, hardworking, and true to his roots. Though his earthly journey has ended, his legacy will live on through his family, his friendships, and the countless memories he leaves behind. This is not goodbye, but simply “see you later.” Until we meet again — 10-4, Fox Hunter… over and out.

In addition to his wife of fifty six years, Lynn Wooley, those left to cherish his memory into three daughters, Paula Sullivan (Andy) of Ripley, Sherri Cox (Joe) of the Ingomar Community, and Liza Pannell (Russell) of the Mitchell community, one sister who he loved dearly, Kathy Street (David), seven grandchildren he was so proud of, Kiley Forsythe (Galen), Abby Thornhill (Alden), Drew Sullivan, Rusty Robbins (Stephanie), Casey Robbins (Lexi), Jenna Bullock (Mason), and John Carter Pannell, five great grandchildren soon to be six, Rissa, Beau, Tal, Whitt, and Mary Sullivan, his four canine companions, Mattie, Henry, M. J., and Minnie, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Those waiting to welcome him home included his parents, his brother, James Harold “Butch” Wooley, and his sidekick, Pipi, wagging her tail.

Pallbearers will be Andy Sullivan, Joe Cox, Russell Pannell, Drew Sullivan, Rusty Robbin, Casey Robbins, John Carter Pannell, and Jeff Butler, along with Hell Creek Hunting Club and his two buddies, Joe Hill and Daryl Hall serving as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and heartfelt thanks to his devoted caretakers — Lillie “Sis” Dortch, Ethlene Jackson, Tanisha Cox, and Senka Tye — for the faithful care, compassion, and love shown to Mr. Danny throughout his journey. Special thanks are also given to Legacy Hospice for their gentle guidance, unwavering support, and dedicated assistance during his final days.
