Guntown- James Roger Cody, 72, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 24, 2025 at The North Mississippi Medical Center. Born in Dallas, Tx on Feb. 3, 1953 to the late James Ira Cody and Dorothy Monts Cody, Roger lived most of his life in the Lee County towns of Plantersville and Guntown. He grew up in the Plantersville Methodist Church but was a Baptist most of his adult life. A guy who had his priorities straight, Rog loved live fully and adventurously and lived in the moment. A self employed master plumber most of his life, he was endeared to his customers who trusted and respected him fully. Having a lifelong love of music, he enjoyed playing his guitar and singing and listening to John Prine, his favorite artist. A jovial sport, he enjoyed picking at his family and friends and was the life of the party. A outdoorsman, he loved golf and fishing and being a fan of Ole Miss and Texas Tech. His greatest love was being a “professional” Papaw
A Service celebrating Roger’s life will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2025 at 2 PM from the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo. Visitation will be from 12 PM until service time on Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside service will follow at Plantersville Cemetery. For those unable to attend the service will be live streamed at 2 PM at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/live-streaming. Roger is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Nichols Cody; sons, James Clay Cody (Marla Gibson), John Lynn Terrell (Crystal), Jason Bacon (Amy), and Danny Bacon; brothers, Bill Cody (Giovanni) and Jerry Cody (Kim); sisters, Valerie Ruff (Moses), and Cheryl Reynolds (Hubble); grandchildren, Allie Grace Sanderson (Preston) Colin Cody, Sean Willim Cody, Payton Bacon, Cooper Bacon, and .a special great grandchild, Walker Rhett Sanderson; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and James, grandparents, Veadie Monts and Calvin Monts, and a sister, Janet Cody Rogers.
Pallbearers will be James Collin Cody, Sean Willim Cody, Brad Sanphere, Payton Bacon, and Cooper Bacon. Condolences may be posted at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/obits.
