April 21, 1953 – June 19, 2025

“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10

On Thursday morning, June 19, 2025, our beloved husband, dad, uncle, Papaw and friend, Roger Dale Burns, Sr., 72, resident of Ripley, departed this life at Tippah County Hospital.

A Memorial Service honoring the life of Mr. Burns will be at 3 PM Sunday, June 22 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Warren Harrell officiating and personal reflections given by Wayne Davis.

Roger was born Aril 21, 1953 in Ripley, one of eleven children of the late Dan and Dora Louise Aston Burns. He was a graduate of Blue Mountain High School and was a valued maintenance technician for BenchCraft Corporation from the time he graduated until the plant closed.

Roger was a non-denominational Christian who loved and attended Faith Fellowship Church in Ripley, and adored his family, his wife of 30+ years, Judy Haygood Burns and his “slew” of grandchildren. He can be best described as soft spoken, servant’s heart, patience, caring, enjoyed people, and was our first hero. Roger had a rare gift for making others smile and laugh, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Roger was the Patriarch of the family and the glue that held everyone together, he will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, Judy, memories will continue to be cherished, his children, Tammy Burns (Jr.), Stacy Brown (Justin), Roger Burns, Jr., Alice Heavener (Tommy), Nathan Burns (Layla), Maliyah Burns (Nick), Rusty Stewart (Candy), Brian Stewart, Meloney Carroll (Bo) and Melinda Cheek, grandchildren, Sarah jones (Trevor), Derrick Smith (Kaitlyn), Shelby Johnson (Christian), Abby Raines (Doug), Jack Brady (Emily Beth), Allen Leopard, Calvin Burns, Travis Burns, Jacee Morrison, Kendall Carroll, Paxton Stewart, Emerick Stewart, Chevy Stewart and Hunter Stewart, one great grandson, Elijah Cole, siblings, Mary Elizabeth O’Callaghan (Bill), Sherry Miller (Windell), Teresa Davis (Wayne), Neil Burns (Pat), Lisa Boye (Rick) and Richard Burns (Debbie).

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Louise Burns, sisters, Martha Russell, Beverly Paxon and Sharon Annette Burns, brothers, Danny Burns and James Burns.

The family request that donation be directed to Faith Fellowship Church, in Care of Bro. Warren Harrell, 1811 CR 101 Walnut, MS 38683
