Roger Wesley Hogue, 91
December 19, 1933 – January 16, 2025
Roger Wesley Hogue, a cherished pillar of the Union County community, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on December 19, 1933, in the same county that he would devote his life to, Roger was a man known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his work, and his faith.
Roger is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Betty Weeden Hogue. Their remarkable partnership was blessed with eight children who Roger adored: Terry Hogue (Sissy), Teresa Moody (Dwayne), Mike Hogue (Geina), Sandra Akins (Jeff), Randy Hogue (Norma), Alan Hogue (Shirley), Wayne Hogue (Jo), and Kristy Thomas (Kevin). He also leaves behind his brother, John McWhater Hogue, and a lineage that includes a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Throughout his life, Roger demonstrated an unparalleled work ethic and versatility. He was a man who could truly do anything he set his mind to. From tending to the land as a farmer, serving the community through his work for county, to his dedicated years at Master-Bilt from which he retired, Roger’s commitment to excellence was evident in all he undertook. His membership at Keownville Baptist Church further exemplified his commitment to service and his love for his neighbors.
Roger’s interests were as genuine as his smile, especially when it came to his tractors. He was never happier than when he was atop his tractor, working the land he knew so well. His presence at social events was always a delight; his family, his ultimate pride and joy, was at the heart of his world. He treasured every moment spent with them, and his ability to weave stories and engage with people ensured that he never met a stranger.
Those who knew Roger would describe him as funny, loving, and spirited. He had an infectious sense of humor that could light up a room and a warm spirit that made everyone feel at home. His stories were legendary, and his ability to visit and connect with people was unmatched.
Roger’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and a spirited approach to life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His impact on his community and the love he shared will continue to resonate for generations to come.
