Roy Wayne Edwards, Jr., 52
May 5, 1972 – September 23, 2024
Sherman – Roy Wayne Edwards, Jr., 52, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a lengthy illness. He was born May 5, 1972 in Pascagoula, MS, to Roy Wayne Edwards, Sr and Ellen Faye Pulliam Edwards.
Wayne, also known by his grandchildren as Pop Pop, loved his family more than anything. His four children and five grandchildren were his biggest motivation to continue to fight his declining health to the very end. Although a big burly man, he was not afraid to show his love to his friends and family, always ending every phone call, text, and visit with “I love you”. He was always quick to help those in need even when he was so sick himself. Wayne had a unique talent for making people laugh. His lighthearted nature and quick wit could brighten even the darkest days and left a trail of smiles in his wake.
Wayne continued in his father and grandfather’s footsteps by becoming a civil contractor, and just like those he followed, he was one of the hardest working men, taking great pride in his work. One of his greatest joys was watching his sons carry on that hardworking tradition to the next generation.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 in the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo with Bro. Jim Varnon officiating. Visitation will be from 5 PM to service time Wednesday only at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Tonia Edwards of Sherman, whom Wayne always lovingly referred to as “Beautiful”; Two sons, Lance Edwards (Madison) and Cody Edwards (Kala) of Stockton, AL; two daughters, Emma and Annalise Jennings of Sherman; his grandchildren, Jackson Sawyer and Evie Edwards, Carson, Ryder and Murphy Kate (due in February) Edwards; Parents, Roy and Faye Edwards of Fairhope, AL; Two Sisters, Linda Smith (Jim) of Tupelo and Lisa Brown (Stephen) of Fairhope, AL; many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; Aunt, Dorothy Poole; Uncle, George Pulliam; two cousins, Eddie Poole and Denise Stuckey; and special friend, Jim Black.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation / Division Serving Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi, 830 Glenwood Ave, Suite 510, Box 405, Atlanta, GA 30316.
