Ruby Harris Tyer passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 105 in New Albany, MS. Born on November 2, 1919, in Union County, MS, she was the devoted daughter of the late Henry L. Harris and Martha Plummer Harris. Ruby was the beloved matriarch of an extensive family that included her cherished daughter, Greta Wilson (Joe), her loving son, Gerald Tyer (Arlene), and her dear sister, Eunice Duncan. Her legacy continued to expand through her four adoring grandchildren, Jason Tyer (Autumn), Shelley Tyer, Lisa Kwasinski, Tommy Wilson (Cindy), six great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
For many years, Ruby showed profound dedication and care as an LPN Nurse at the Union County Hospital, where her compassion touched the lives of countless individuals. Ruby’s interests were a tapestry of creativity and passion for life; she crafted beautiful quilting and ceramics, found tranquility in working in her yard, and delighted in the discovery of treasures at local yard sales. Known for her love of family gatherings, Ruby’s eyes would light up whenever loved ones brought her favorite hamburgers to enjoy during her time at Union County Health and Rehab.
Ruby was a devout member of Bethlehem Church of New Albany, exemplifying the virtues of kindness, friendliness, and creativity that those around her cherished most. A nurturing soul, Ruby was loved for her dedication to nursing and her unwavering affection toward her family and friends.
Ruby’s life was lived with gentle grace and genuine care for others, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories for all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2024 at United Funeral Service from 12:30 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Brownie Tohill will officiate. Burial will be at Glenfield Memorial Gardens.
