Ruby Nell Filgo Boggan, long time Tupelo resident, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2025, at North Mississippi Medical Center. Born on November 27, 1926, to Alva Roy Filgo and Gertrude Benson Filgo, she was just shy of her ninety-ninth birthday. She spent her childhood in Okolona, Mississippi and graduated from Okolona High School in 1944. She furthered her education at Mississippi College for Women receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Secretarial Science in 1948. She then went to work for TVA until starting a family. Ruby Nell married Tupelo native, Roy N. Boggan, Jr. on December 27, 1950. They made their home in Tupelo raising two daughters.

She and Roy were proud charter members of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Tupelo where they were active, supportive members until their health failed. Upon Roy’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling, especially to the western parts of the United States.

A master cook and homemaker, Ruby Nell always made everyone feel welcomed in her home. She also took great pleasure in raising her two daughters and was involved in their school activities. She was a past PTO President and was also a Brownie Girl Scout leader.

Other activities she enjoyed included sewing, embroidery, reading, and playing bridge.

She was a past member of the Tupelo Jr. Auxiliary and Hoe and Hope Garden Club. Later on in life, she enjoyed being a grandmother, great grandmother, and lunching with her “Old Ladies” group.

Ruby Nell was a true feisty southern lady always ready to lend a helping hand and was a friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

Ruby Nell leaves behind her daughter, Kathryn Boggan Cayson and her husband, Mike, of Tupelo; two granddaughters, Emily Cayson Mize and her husband, Will, of Tupelo, and Kate Walker Gurkin and her husband, Spencer, of Memphis, Tennessee; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Kathryn Mize of Tupelo; two great-grandsons, Walker Griffin Gurkin of Memphis, Tennessee, and Wesley Thomas Mize of Tupelo, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Boggan of Tupelo; and nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Frances Boggan Walker; sister, Doris Filgo Martin; and brother, Roy “Sonny” Benson Filgo.

A private family service celebrating her life was held October 28, 2025, at Pegues Funeral Directors in Tupelo with Reverend Amber Lea Gray officiating. Burial followed at Glenwood Cemetery.
