Sadie Aileen Downs, 18

June 7, 2006 – June 11, 2024

Mooreville-A beautiful, dashing young lady full of energy, determination and promise fought a courageous battle with cancer for well over a year and half. Sadie Aileen “Mae Mae” Downs won her victory through death on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Sadie had just turned 18 four days before. Born in Tupelo on June 7, 2006 to Shanna Ellis Downs and David G. Downs, II, she was a lifelong Lee County native and lived in the same home in the Mooreville area all her life. Sadie graduated from Mooreville High School on Sat., May 18, 2024 as an honors graduate. Very studious and athletic, Sadie enjoyed all sports and was an active participant in the soccer, tennis and volleyball programs at Mooreville High. She was part of a doubles team in Tennis that won the Division Championship in 2022. Sadie loved being outdoors especially swimming, kayaking and being in complete reverence of God’s creation. An animal lover, she especially cherished dogs and goats, which the family lovingly cared for. Her big beautiful smile lit up every room, her laughter was contagious and her independent, opinionated personality and strong presence among family and friends she loved made her wonderfully special. Her dream in life was to become a Veterinary Assistant and work with rescue animals. Sadie had a strong heritage of faith and Godly presence in her life which was taught her through her lifelong faithful affiliation and membership with the Tupelo Church of God. Sadie made a difference in other’s lives and will be long remembered as a one of a kind model young lady who lived an all too short but completely purposed filled life.



A service celebrating her life will be held at Noon Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Mooreville High School Gym with her Pastor, Judd Vowell officiating. A private family only committal service will follow in Boguefala Cemetery in Mooreville. Visitation will be from 4PM-7PM on Friday (6/14/23) and from 11 AM-service time at Noon on Saturday. Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo is honored to be serving their friends.

Sadie is survived by her parents, Shanna and David Downs; her sisters, Sianna Downs and Audrey Downs all of Mooreville; her grandparents; Terry and Nita Dickey of Mooreville, Teresa Oakes of Cullman, Ala. and Gerald Downs of Vicksburg, Ms; her aunts, Dana Ellis and Ginny Dickey both of Mooreville and Traci Barnes (David) of Cullman, Ala.; her uncles, Mark Kinny (Jennifer) of Texas and Michael Downs of Wisconsin; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and their families.

Pallbearers will be Silas Tatum, Webb Files, Brantley Martin, Emma Stanford, Caroline Ward, Lydia Spencer, and Lyla Cox. Honorary Pallbearers are the Mooreville Volleyball, Soccer, and Tennis teams.
