Shirley Geneva Kabban, 87

January 23, 1937 – January 21, 2025

Tupelo- Shirley Geneva Kabban, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at her home in Tupelo.

Born January 23, 1937, in Belden, Shirley was the beloved daughter of James Watson Campbell and Ophia Irene Hall Campbell. Shirley grew up grounded in strong family values that guided her throughout her life, shaping her role as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

In September 1958, Shirley married the love of her life, Bashir Kabban. Their extraordinary love story began with a simple letter—a pen-pal correspondence that blossomed into 53 beautiful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and adventure, until Bashir’s passing in 2012.

Shirley embraced a life of purpose and adventure as a devoted homemaker and military wife. She traveled extensively, enjoyed dancing, and took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Above all, she delighted in the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were the center of her world.

Shirley leaves behind three children, Tina McDaniels, Emil Kabban and his wife, Melanie, and Reginald Kabban and his wife, Christine; seven grandchildren, Dara Wotherspoon (Zach), Kaitlyn Wingold (Zach), Emile Kabban, Christopher McDaniels (Sarah), Michael McDaniels, Laura Kabban, and Aaron Kabban; five great-grandchildren, Sofia Wotherspoon, Amelia Wotherspoon, Parker Wingold, Finnegan McDaniels, and Ophelia McDaniels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bashir Kabban; one daughter, Rita Kabban; one sister, Louise Thompson; and one brother, Bobby Campbell.
