Shirley Reed Windham, 67

May 19, 1957 – March 20, 2025

On the early morning of Thursday March 20, 2025, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Shirley Reed Windham, 67, fought the good fight, kept the faith, and won the victory, as she entered into her Heavenly Home, with family faithfully by her side.

Services celebrating the life of Ms. Shirley will be at 3 PM Monday March 24, 2025, at Covenant Church in New Albany, with Bro. Randy Hays and Bro. Bob Pugh officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until time of service on Monday March 24, 2025, at Covenant Church in New Albany.

Born May 19, 1957, in New Albany, Mississippi, Ms. Shirley was the daughter of the late James Vernon and Inez Rooker Reed. A graduate of Blue Mountain High School, she was employed with Piper Impact for thirty years, until her retirement. Ms. Shirley made many friends during her time with Piper, as they always enjoyed pulling pranks on one another, making the most of their time spent with each other. Many wonderful memories made during her time working there, as her infectious personality and fun nature served her well during her employment. A saved Christian, Ms. Shirley was a member of Covenant Church, where she loved attending worship services, praising the Lord faithfully, always holding to his promises, never losing sight in all of the wonderful things He has done.

Outside of her love for work and church, Ms. Shirley lived life to its absolute fullest. Favorite pastimes consisted of traveling on various cruises, watching the game show network, Hallmark channel, and cheering on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on television, listening to country music, attending concerts of ZZ top and others, or going on trips to Talladega. A woman on the move, always going at “full throttle”, Ms. Shirley was a force of nature, never leaving anyone unsure of how she saw things, and had no problem sharing her version of the truth and speaking her mind. Nevertheless, the love she had for her family was clear to see in the way she lived her life, determined to provide for them all, and give them the life she felt they deserved. Her grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and pride and joy, as she loved being around them all, spoiling them every chance given, especially letting them try out new snapchat filters on her when taking “selfies” together.

Through the years of life, Ms. Shirley was one of a kind, and to be loved by her was to truly be blessed. Yet even amidst the challenges life brought her way, she never wavered in her compassion for others. She continued to support her family, being fully dedicated to the Lord, and making it certain to all those around her, knowing where her final destination would be. A statement from DL Moody once said, “If you hear that I have died, don’t believe it for a minute, for I’ll be more alive than I’ve ever been!” How true this quote is for Ms. Shirley and what a comfort it is for us all, knowing she has forever been healed, walking the streets of gold, enjoying all of Heaven’s joys, and worshiping at the feet of her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Those left to carry on her legacy include two daughters, Lisa Stanford and Christy Windham, one son, Tim Windham (Audrey), two sisters, Lois Hodges and JoAnn Robbins, nine grandchildren, Brandon and Gracie Stanford, Autry and Emma Windham, Shelbi, Lea, and Callie Crawford, and Aysia and Jena Boles, two great-grandchildren, Journiee Hampton and D.J. Schwartz, and her best friend, Brian Bridges.  The family wants to thank Legacy Hospice for all their love and care shown to Shirley, along with her special nurses, Beverly Riddle and Jessica Hays.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Linda Elder, one brother, Gerald Reed, and one granddaughter, Alaina Tipler.
