Police trying to unravel fatal shootings at Albany Acres

Law enforcement officials still have more questions that answers concerning what led up to incidents late Monday night that left three people dead and one wounded.

The first incident began about 9 p.m. when police received a 911 call about shooting at Albany Acres Apartments near the fairgrounds.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said officers arrived to find a white sedan with its engine running in front of the complex. In the driver’s seat was a black male, later determined to be a juvenile, who was deceased. His name was not released due to his age.

Elsewhere in the vehicle was a black female, Izachaia Arnez Bogard, 19, of Holly Springs, who was injured. Both had been shot and Bogard died later.

Then, the chief said, 10 or 15 minutes later officers received a call from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County that a gunshot victim was being treated there.

Investigators went to the hospital and learned that this subject needed surgery but was in stable condition, although he could not be interrogated at that time. Robertson did not release his name.

Shortly after that, another 911 call was received saying that an individual at Park Plaza Apartments was threatening to kill himself.

While suicide cases are not always reported, in this case the individual was streaming on Facebook Live.

Chief Robertson went to the second scene where officers tried unsuccessfully to de-escalate the situation for about 45 minutes. The individual carried out his threat.

Officers are still trying to determine what happened at Albany Acres, what the individuals were doing there and how the shootings occurred. Robertson speculated that it might have been some sort of deal that went bad or perhaps a robbery but they still don’t have enough information to know.

Because of the two incidents plus having an individual at the hospital, Robertson called for assistance from the Union County Sheriff’s Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and crime scene unit to help deal with the multiple scenes and crowd gathered at the hospital.

Robertson hopes to have more information available as they talk with the surviving victim and others in the investigation.
