Sidney D. “Sug” Hanna, 74

Tupelo- Sidney D. “Sug” Hanna, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home.

Born and raised in Okolona, Mississippi, Mr. Hanna lived a life defined by hard work, adventure, and the people he loved. In his early years he worked on offshore oil rigs and held a Merchant Marine license. His work carried him around the world, including time living in Scotland, working off the coasts of Thailand and South Africa, as well as in the Mediterranean Sea. During his time in the oil industry he served as a lead driller. After leaving the oil fields, he later worked for more than a decade at Cooper Tire and in his later years worked as a plumber for Hanna Plumbing which he owned.

He was a man who saw many places and met many people throughout his life. He loved those close to him deeply, always enjoyed having a dog by his side, and never lost his appreciation for a good Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Sidney will be remembered for his stories, his loyalty to the people he loved, the dogs that were always near his side, and the life he lived on his own terms. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Survivors include his daughters, Amanda Hanna Satterfield and Amy Hanna Burnham (Dan); brothers, Devan Hanna (Donnette) of Okolona and Carl Clifton Hanna II (Janet) of Pontotoc; sisters, Nita Van Ausborn, Nell Hanna Lawson (Tommy), and Wutzi Kendrick, all of Monroe County, and Candy Hanna Adkins (Carl) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; and grandchildren, Colby Reed Hill, Ellis Steele Satterfield, Denny Bryant Satterfield, Blake (Chelsea) Jolly, Meri-Claire (Caleb) Todd, and Brady Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Clifton Hanna; mother, Ruby Jewel Bryant; brother, John William Hanna; and sisters, Janie Hanna Darty and Mary Hanna Sanders.
