STEAMING AHEAD into Museum Madness
The STEAM is building up at the museum for the “STEAMING AHEAD into Museum Madness” the summer enrichment program for children at the Union County Heritage Museum.. The half day program lasts for a week and is packed with activities all about nature, interesting ideas, fun craft and art and a touch of history.
The recipe for this year’s curriculum is to add a few fish, throw in explorer Merriwether Lewis, pitch in a few beautiful bugs and butterflies, and stir it all up into a spiral. The last ingredient is gross stuff and what you have? You have cooked up a week filled with fun!
Each day has a theme:
Monday, June 17, 2019: Learn all About Fish Pvt. John Allen National Fish Hatchery will bring info for campers. Then we will create a Gyotaku Fish Print and a Japanese fish kite.
Tuesday, June 18: Become Explorers Join us on the Lewis and Clark Expedition and discover how they traveled , mapped, ate and some of the things they learned.
Wednesday, June 19 Bugging Out As we learn about the world of bugs and the early Cabinets of Curiosities , you can create your own with artist Rebecca Browning.
Thursday, June 20: Spirals in Nature Study with Naturalist Sherra Owen and learn What if’, and ‘How come’ are questions that we will ask about the shapes of things and how nature is connected in shapes and designs.
Friday, June 21: Grossology Experiment with gross science as Scientist Rheta Ann West takes the campers through all kinds of activities studying the nature of gross stuff!!
The ages eligible for Museum Madness are: Incoming 2nd Graders to Incoming 5th Graders Union County Historical Society Members’ cost is $10 per Day and Non Members $15 per day. Free T-Shirts for full week campers. Classes are from 9 a.m.—12 noon.
