Steve Koehn, 73
September 8, 1951 – December 19, 2024
OKOLONA – Our dear husband, dad, papa, and friend, Steven Edward Koehn, was born September 8, 1951, in Turlock, California. He gained his angel wings December 19, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida. His childhood was spent in the Livingston, California area. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on March 17, 1963, by Minister Kenneth Koehn. The faith was precious to him.
On March 21, 1971, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Unruh. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for nearly 54 years. They spent two years in 1W service in Kansas, and then moved to Clarksdale, Mississippi where Dad was a land-leveler. Several years later they moved to the Okolona area. He farmed with his brother-in-law Gordon Becker for several years, and then built up a dirtmoving business, after which he transitioned to catfish farming. Dad loved the calm and peace that his ongoing cow-calf operation brought to him. Some highlights in his life included a tour to Alaska in 2014, several months spent in Rochester at the guest house, and helping with fish fries at the Haiti benefit auctions. They loved spending winters in Sarasota, Florida, where they made many special friends. Dad enjoyed many hours at Pinecraft Park, visiting and playing shuffleboard.
Dad exemplified many positive character traits to us children. While riding his bike one day a while back he heard angels singing, which gave him a longing for Heaven. We are comforted that he has forever conquered the pain that so often affected him, which he never complained about, but always accepted with a quiet inner strength.
Left with aching hearts are his grieving wife, Bonnie; children, Ross and Jessica, Trish and Roland Wiebe, Jeremy and Karla, Barry and Heather; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild. His mother, Bette; siblings, Barb and Dennis Boehs, Joyce Nightengale and Rick Nightengale, David and Becky Koehn, Nancy and Russel Koehn, Mike Koehn and Jaylyn Koehn, Deb and Brian Duerksen. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Okolona Mennonite Church in Okolona. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM. Burial will take place at the Okolona Mennonite Cemetery.
