Steve Wayne Thomas, 59

June 8, 1965 – May 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Wayne Thomas, a beloved husband, family member, and friend, who left this world on May 9, 2025, at the age of 59. Steve was born on June 8, 1965, in New Albany, Mississippi, and spent his life making an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.

Steve proudly worked as a truck driver for Fusion Furniture, where his dedication and hard work were well-known. However, in previous years Steve was a master carpenter that had a talent of building anything he put his mind to. He loved life and embraced every moment with enthusiasm. He was always full of joy and never failed to crack a great joke. A true sports enthusiast, Steve had a particular passion for football and softball. He attended Myrtle Attendance Center where he graduated in 1983. Steve was an avid Hawk fan and often said he “bled” red and black. It filled him with pride to be able to kick off the playoffs for the Lady Hawks this year by throwing out the first pitch. Whether he was cheering on his favorite teams or hitting the field himself, his spirited nature was infectious and inspiring to all who knew him.

A man of many interests, Steve thrived on adventure. He embraced every opportunity to cruise to new destinations, always with a song in his heart. His love for singing brought joy not only to himself but to those lucky enough to hear him, filling rooms with warmth and laughter. He particularly loved singing with his family.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette Thomas, who was his partner in all aspects of life. Their bond was built on love, respect, and shared adventures.

Steve is also survived by one little sister Stefanie Bailey, three daughters Chelsea Thornton (Zak), Mandy Wise, and Dawn Griffin, three sons: Cameron Thomas, David Rhynes (Kim), and Eugene Nichols. He is survived by his cherished grandkids, Montana Nichols, Emily Rhynes, Mckensie Wise, Makayla Rhynes, Andrew Rhynes, Destin Nichols, Kaycie Rhynes, Abigail Rhynes, Zadie Thornton, Lane Clifton, Cody Clifton, Gage Chism, and Landen Herring.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Travis and Carolyn Thomas, nephew Austin McDonald, and a host of aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church in Myrtle, MS. A second visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 12:00-2:00 PM followed by celebration of life service that will take place at 2:00 PM at New Hope Baptist Church.

Brother Ken White and Brother Marty Merritt will be officiating the services.

Pallbearers will be Eugene Nichols, Cameron Thomas, Mike Thompson, Keith Basil, Mark Potts, Keith Speck, Tony Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Dees, Fred Martin, Barry Mathis, and Randy Thomas.

As we come together to reflect on Steve’s life, we are reminded of the laughter, love, and countless memories he leaves behind. May we carry forward his passion for life and celebrate the vibrant spirit that he was. Rest in peace, dear Steve; you will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
