Pothole patching is prelude to paving on Moss Hill Drive

Motorists who have used Moss Hill Drive the past couple of days were likely pleased to see that a notorious pothole near the Fairgrounds Spur intersection is being excavated and repaired.

The city is patching spots such as this so a paving contractor can come in later this spring and resurface most of the street, from West Bankhead to Sam T. Barkley Drive.

While this will take a large part of the city’s street maintenance budget for the year, some other street work will be done in each ward in the city, based on need.

The city has about 75 miles of streets, a large part in average condition, but some in need of considerable work. A study done two years ago estimated about $6.2 million would be required to do the recommended street work, with about $1.2 million for annual maintenance.
