Sue Ellis, 81

August 15, 1943 — November 9, 2024

Sherman- Sue Ellis, age 81, peacefully passed away after an extended illness while surrounded by family at her daughter’s home in Oxford on Saturday, November 9, 2024. Sue was born August 15, 1943, to Thomas Lane and Margrette Sue McCartney. While at The University of Auburn earning her Sociology degree, she met her future life-long husband, Dr. Tom Ellis. They married on January 1, 1966. Dr. Tom and Sue built a marriage of love and support, expanding their family with four daughters. Sue was a devout Christian who loved all of God’s children, especially her own. Sue took great pride in being a mom, often reminding her daughters that her lifelong dream was to be a mother. Sue enjoyed family gatherings that built precious memories while filling her home with warmth, love, and laughter. She was an active and long-term member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Saltillo.



Sue is survived by her three daughters, Susan Parker-Graham of Mooreville, Allison Wells of Tupelo; and Catherine Jennings and her husband, Chad of Oxford; eight grandchildren, Justin Malone and his wife, Courteney, Jordan Malone and his wife, Elizabeth, Austin Parker and his fiancé, Morgan, Adelyn Wells and her fiancé, Chase, Brayden Parker and his wife, Audrey, Ryan Jennings, Gavin Graham, and Silas Murphy; three great-grandchildren, Kinsley Parker, Bram Malone, and Alice Flatley; and three more great-grandchildren on the way; three sisters, Lee McCartney Moates, Gwen Reynolds and her husband A.C., and Jeanne Clarke and her husband Mike.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Tom Ellis; daughter, Lesley Malone; granddaughter, Asia Wells; two siblings, Ann Weathers and Lane McCartney.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo. Graveside services honoring Sue’s life will be held at Sherman Cemetery with Pastor Phil Reynolds officiating at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

Pallbearers will be Justin Malone, Jordan Malone, Austin Parker, Brayden Parker, Gavin Graham, and Chad Jennings. Silas Murphy will be the honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 295 N 3rd Ave, Saltillo, MS 38866.
