Union Co. Supervisors 6-18-18: College tuition, portable classrooms
The Union County Board of Supervisors heard from the president of Northeast Mississippi Community College (NEMCC) during the board’s Monday morning, June 18, meeting.
Dr. Ricky Ford, president of NEMCC discussed the tuition guarantee plan for Union County students.
Under the tuition guarantee program, which was started in 2009, incoming freshman at NEMCC, who are unable to receive any other financial aid, can receive help from a tuition guarantee program. Money to fund the program for qualifying Union County students is appropriated by the Board of Supervisors.
The program has specific requirements students must meet, including required hours per semester, a minimum grade point average and meeting deadlines. The guarantee may remain valid for four consecutive semesters. Students must apply each year.
Dr. Ford also told the board that portable classrooms would be added to NEMCC’s New Albany campus. Work to install a portable classroom was underway at the New Albany campus on Cleveland St. Monday afternoon. The main campus of NEMCC is located in Booneville, Miss.
