Some details remain sketchy but a suspect was taken into custody following an armed robbery at the New Albany Wal-Mart about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Police Chief Chris Robertson said they received a call that a lone black male wearing a hoodie and apparently carrying a handgun took an undetermined amount of cash from the store and left on foot, walking toward Hwy. 30.

Police later received a tip that the suspect might be at a Shell gas station in Marshall County and he was taken into custody by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department and Memphis Federal Bureau of Investigation Task Force.

The stolen money and a gun were recovered, the chief said.

Robertson said the suspect has not been returned to Union County and he did not have information yet on the suspect’s identity.

No one was reported injured in the robbery.

The chief hoped to be able to say more Wednesday.
