Sylvia Jean Cole Comer, 78
November 9, 1946 – August 19, 2025
Tupelo- Sylvia Jean Cole Comer passed away on August 19, 2025 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. After beating cervical cancer last fall, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three months ago. Forever independent, she was able to remain on her own at home until the last week. She passed away surrounded by friends and family knowing how loved she was.
Sylvia was born on November 9, 1946 to the late Woodrow Wilson and Flora Marie Cole. She remained in East Tupelo her entire life. In her younger years, she was a popular hairdresser working out of her shop at her home. Later, she worked many different jobs, sometimes two or three at a time, including many years at United Wholesale Florist.
One of the things she was known for was her strong work ethic. Early on, Sylvia started making cakes and became a popular cake artist in Tupelo. Aside from the many cakes she made for friends and family, she also worked in the bakery at Todd’s Big Star for many years until she retired a few years ago.
Sylvia was a good friend to many and loved to spend time with her friends and family. She enjoyed floral design, baking, creating crafts, and just enjoying being outside at her house.
Sylvia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Woodrow and Christy Comer; grandchildren, Abby Comer, Noah Comer, and his wife, Hannah; great-granddaughter, Sayli James Comer; brother, Larry Cole and wife, Billie; nephews, Rick Witcher (Teresa), Davey Cole (Rhonda), Joey Cole (Karen); niece, Tonia Page; lifelong friend, Lisa Clark; dear friend and ex-husband, Robert Comer; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sarah Cole Witcher; brother-in-law, Bobby Witcher; an infant brother; and nephew Greg Witcher.
