Searching for Sylvia, Michigan cat lost in New Albany

NEMiss.news Lost cat Sylvia

Animal lovers in New Albany and Tupelo are hoping to rescue Sylvia. She is a gray and cream Siamese cat who escaped from a truck on the New Albany Pilot parking on March 23.

Michigan truck driver, Melissa Rojas, says Sylvia somehow got out of her truck last week, at about 2:30 AM. Sylvia is poorly equipped to survive on her own in the wild, as she is declawed and was wearing a pink break-away collar with a bell. Thus she is at a great disadvantage for both hunting food and protecting herself. Rojas was told that one driver thought he’d seen Sylvia in a field near a collapsed shed last week.

Melissa put out a search ad to rescues, which reached Second Chances Rescue in Pontotoc. Angela Brooks, a Tupelo lawyer, saw the notice posted on the site and posted it to her FB page. NEMiss.News picked up the story from Brooks.

On Sunday morning April 5, Brooks and her son, Parker, drove to New Albany to search and distribute flyers.

At the New Albany Pilot they learned that Sylvia  had been spotted on the parking lot on Friday, April 3rd.  No other recent sightings are known.

Food was placed in strategic areas and flyers were distributed this morning at the Pilot and to homes, etc. in the surrounding area.

Brooks is considering placing a live animal trap if one can be procured and necessary arrangements made to check it periodically. Brooks will pick Sylvia up if she is caught.

Anyone who can volunteer to help with the trap arrangements is asked to email Angela Brooks at angela@abrookslaw.com.
