Tallahatchie Crawfish and Shrimp Festival cancelled due to weather forecast. Musical performances moved indoors
The much-anticipated Tallahatchie Crawfish and Shrimp Festival, which was to take place this Saturday, April 22, at the Park Along the River, has been cancelled due to the forecast of heavy thunderstorms.
After reviewing the forecasts, organizers spoke on Wednesday morning and decided to scale down the event and move it indoors.
Organizers reported that music had already been reserved, so they decided to move the concerts to The Basement, a local events venue located under the Henderson Building (100 E Bankhead) downtown.
Crawfish, BBQ and shrimp will still be available and donations will still be taken to benefit park improvements at Park Along the River.
The event will begin at 4pm and last until around 10pm. Holdin’ on to Old Country, Mike Carter’s Last Revival and The Wayward Kin will provide the entertainment.
Local Lick’s will also be recording an acoustic set with members of the Wayward Kin at The Basement on Thursday night, April 20.
“It’s disappointing that the weather’s not cooperating with the festival, but that’s a problem with spring festivals,” says Sean Johnson, who is helping to coordinate the event. “However, the public response to the idea of having a crawfish festival at the park has been phenomenal and it’s something that we’re definitely interested in pursuing again next year.”
For more information about the scaled down crawfish event this Saturday night, further updates will be posted on The Basement Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/thebasementna/.
