Inaugural Tallahatchie Crawfish Festival kicks off New Albany’s “warm weather” season

Those who love crawfish and live music will be in for a treat on Saturday, April 22nd at the inaugural Tallahatchie Crawfish Festival at Park Along the River in downtown New Albany.

The festival, which lasts from Noon until 6pm, will feature several teams cooking up crawfish in various styles, along with Pop’s BBQ offering grilled and boiled shrimp, burgers, nachos, and, of course, BBQ.

While this food fest is going on, music will be playing from the new Riverstage for its first event of the year. Three bands will be playing throughout the day, including The Wayward Kin, The Last Revival with Mike Carter, and Holdin’ on to Old Country.

“I really can’t think of a better way to kick off the warm weather,” says Mark Pipkin, who, along with John Kelly, has hosted a successful private boil for the past several years.

“Each year we had more and more people come out and thought, maybe it’s time to see if we can take this to the next level,” Pipkin continued

Festival will aid fund-raising for new Park-Along-the-River playground equipment

Non-alcoholic beverages will be sold on site, but coolers are welcome with a $10 donation that will be used to help purchase new playground equipment for the park. Additionally, $1 from each plate sold will also be donated to this cause.

For those with little time, to-go plates will be available and bags of uncooked crawfish will also be available for boiling at home.

“We’re so happy to have a new event in this year’s event line up and have high hopes that we’ll be able to expand on the event in the coming years…It’s crawfish and music…on the banks of the Tallahatchie…how cool is that?” says Sean Johnson, of New Albany Tourism who is helping to coordinate the festival.
