Tallahatchie Riverfest 2020 overview & map
(New Albany, MS, September 2020)
The 2020 Tallahatchie Riverfest is on the horizon, and the planning committee has several things in store. The event, which started as a celebration to honor New Albany’s native son, William Faulkner, has morphed into a variety of activities to attract people of all ages and tastes.
On the list are SHOP the BLOCK for Charity and Main Street Marketplace in historic downtown, One-Act Play at the Magnolia Civic Center, Movie Night at the Riverview Stage, Friends & Family Play All Day at Park Along the River, Case Knife Show at the Event Hall, and an evening of live music with local group Southern Soul & Co and local musician Bebo opening for Shameless and headliner Steve Azar.
Billye Jean Stroud, Main Street Community Development Director, her assistants, Tracy Vainisi and Emily Draffen, are working out final details for the weekend event. “Our biggest hurdle this year has been organizing everything with safety protocols in place. Sanitization, masks, and social distancing are at the top of the list. Hand sanitizing stations, limiting the number of people to promote social distancing, and masks will be our main lines of defense for each area,” Stroud said.
“People have been doing the best they can to be as cautious and considerate of others and in the “Best Southern Small Town”, and we expect nothing less for Tallahatchie Riverfest weekend.”Vainisi added, “It will be a great time for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors with friends and family.”
