Terry Gibson, 67
April 26, 1957 – August 17, 2024
TUPELO – Terry Wayne Gibson departed this earthly realm from his Tupelo residence on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. He was 67 years old. Born in Wichita, Kansas to Waymon and Dolline Denton Gibson, he grew up in Tupelo and graduated from Tupelo High School in 1975. He and his dad, Waymon and brother, Dale, co-own Gibson Corrugated, LLC., a major box supplier headquartered in Tupelo and known nationwide for their quality and timely service. Terry was a quiet and private individual. He achieved the status of Life in Boy Scouts, developed an early love for the outdoors, for astrology and sky gazing using his high powered telescope to ferret out constellations, stars and solar systems.
Attending Ole Miss after High School, Terry developed a loyalty and love for the Rebels and seldom missed a game whether in Oxford or on TV. He loved nautical items, lighthouses, and all genres of music especially enjoying James Brown and 70s music. He was a student of Native American folklore and enjoyed nothing better than arrowhead hunting. He enjoyed his dogs over his lifetime. His extensive home library was filled with all types of books which he enjoyed reading and perusing. Possessed with a dry wit and sense of humor, Terry was always worried about his tardiness and being on time. And, if he had an epitaph, it would read “at least he isn’t in a hurry anymore.” His greatest joy was his family, especially his only son, Chip and his family.
Per his request, there will be a private family-only service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. For those wishing to express well wishes to the family, they can be posted on his memorial page at hollandfuneraldirectors.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to his favorite charities, Tupelo-Lee Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 2143, Tupelo, MS.38803, or the Special Olympics, 1133 19th St. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036 (specialolympics.org).
Terry is survived by his son, Chip Gibson and his wife, Lillie; Pop Pop’s beloved two grandsons, Rex (age 4) and Leo (5 months); his parents, Waymon and Dolline Gibson; his sister, Missy Gibson Malone and her husband, Scott, and Dale Gibson and his wife, Robyn, all of Tupelo; his nieces and nephews, Max Gibson (Rachel) and their children, Silas and Aris, Tate Malone and Mia Malone and his Gibson Corrugated family.
