Therrill Gene Morgan, 92
October 5, 1932 – February 22, 2025
MOOREVILLE – Therrill Gene Morgan transformed from this life to eternal life on Feb. 22, 2025 from The Meadows in Fulton. Mr. Morgan was 92 years old. Born on October 5, 1932 in Ingomar (Union Co) to the late Fleetwood Elliott Morgan and Mary Beatrice Stanford Morgan, Gene and his late wife Jo Ann Ponder lived most of their lives in Lee County. He spent almost 6 years at Countrywood Manor in Mantachie before residing the last couple months at The Meadows in Fulton. A patriotic American, PFC Morgan served stateside during the Korean Conflict. He worked for over 43 years as a Tow Motor Operator/Assemblyman at Day-Brite Lighting. After retiring there, he spent several years working at Kroger where he received the Point of Light Award in 1995. A devoted Christian, he was a faithful member of the East Heights Baptist Church for many years. Gene loved working in his yard, gardening, watching westerns and being an avid sports fan completely devoted to Ole Miss Athletics. He was a gentle soul who lived a purpose-filled life honoring God, family, his Church and Country.
A service celebrating his life, with military honors, will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, in the Sadie M. Holland Memorial Chapel at Holland Funeral Directors-Tupelo with Dr. Terry Cutrer officiating with Bro. Jay White assisting. His grandson, Forrest Frederick will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Visitation will be from Noon-service time on Wednesday only. Gene is survived by his three children, Patricia “Pat” Long and Randy Morgan (Melba), all of Tupelo, and Deborah Frederick of Mooreville; his grandchildren, Chris Estes (Sissy) of Shannon, Morgan Estes, DPT of Fort Collins, CO, Forrest Frederick of Dallas, TX, and Dr. Tarrah Frederick of Jackson, TN; his great-grandchildren, Logan Estes (Misty), Raleigh Estes and William Estes; a great-great-grandchild, Mason Estes; one sister, Wilma Page of Skyline; his Ponder family; and his beloved cat, Felix. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Ponder Morgan, who died January 6, 2006; two sons-in-law, Jimmy Long and Eddie Frederick; his sisters, Fay Wade, Ruby Garner and Elaine Mullenix, and brothers, Harold Ray Morgan, Quitman Morgan, Alden Morgan, Gurney Morgan, Roy Morgan and Olen Morgan.
Pallbearers will be the members of Men’s Adult 1 and Adult 11 Sunday school classes at East Heights Baptist Church.
