Thomas “Joe” Cherry, 68
December 15, 1956 – June 11, 2025
Thomas “Joe” Cherry was born December 15, 1956 to Preston Cherry and Elizabeth Brown Cherry in Palmetto, MS. He departed this life June 11, 2025 at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS.
After graduating from South Pontotoc High School, he went on to work in the fabrication industry and Pontotoc City Schools. After many years of service, Joe spent his time gardening and serving his community with lawn care, traveling, and enjoying his family.
Joe and Mary met as elementary schoolmates and reconnected later in 1979. They shared a beautiful love story, marriage, and two daughters.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Preston and Elizabeth, four sisters: Jettie Bee Coleman, Annie Jones, Francill Jones, Betty Fitzpatrick, four brothers: T.W., J.W, Flemmity, Jake.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Zinn Cherry, two daughters: Carol Iwhiwhu (Samson) of Horn Lake, MS, Lesiah Thompson (Derrick) of Olive Branch, MS, one sister, Bonnette Holesome, three brothers: James, Henry (Shirley), Donnell (Katherine), six grandchildren: Christian, Caitlyn, Jaedon, Caylee, Jacob, and Omameri all of Desoto County, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Payton Mortuary. Viewing will be one hour before service.
