Thomas Scruggs, 83
July 12, 1941 – January 8, 2025
PALMETTO COMMUNITY – Carrol Thomas Scruggs, after a brief illness, left this world for the life eternal at 7: 50 PM Wednesday January 8, 2025 from Sanctuary Hospice House. He was 83 years old. Born in Lee County on July 12, 1941 to the late Marvin Thomas Scruggs and Mary Agnes Dunn Scruggs, he lived his whole life in Lee County except for his basic training when he entered the Mississippi National Guard. A strong, principled man, Thomas lived a rather quiet life of service to his family, his church – Palmetto Baptist Church, his Masonic Lodge (Palmetto #152), and to his country. He spent his working life in supervisory roles in the furniture manufacturing business including 30 years at Super Sagless, 10 years at Franklin Furniture, and his last years before his final retirement at Truck Center driving trucks. Thomas loved his family supremely and loved spending time with them, especially camping with the grands! An avid conversationalist and storyteller, he enjoyed all God’s creation. His life was centered around the principals of brotherly love, truth and relief and he was always cemented with moral and social virtues taught by his faith and his Masonic teaching.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 1 PM Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at Holland Funeral Directors in Tupelo. Visitation will be from 11 AM to service time Monday only. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at 1 PM at hollandfuneraldirectors.com/live-streaming and afterward archived. Burial will take place at Lee Memorial Park. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to serve their friends.
