NEW ALBANY, Miss., Feb. 18, 2025– Former local pastor Tom Sumrall recently retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County’s board of directors after serving from 2006 to 2024.

During Sumrall’s 18-year tenure, the board broadened clinical services, expanded the emergency department, enhanced women’s health services, opened Baptist Cancer Center-Union County and introduced TeleHealth programs to improve access to specialized care. Baptist Union County also achieved numerous accolades for quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and patient safety during this period.

“Rev. Sumrall’s dedication and leadership have made a meaningful difference for Baptist Union County and our community,” said Ann Bishop, chief executive officer and administrator of Baptist Union County. “We are grateful for his years of service and wish him the best in retirement.”

Bishop and Colt Doom, chair of the board of directors, honored Sumrall with a special gift in recognition of his years of service. During his tenure, Sumrall worked alongside the late Lugie Brown, Dr. John Stanford, Doom and Rusty Berryhill.
