Tommie Wayne Hilliard, 77
March 20, 1948 – July 26, 2025
The Lord called Mr. Tommie Wayne Hilliard to his heavenly home on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
He is the son of the late Ovell and Vera Hilliard. Tommie accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul M.B. Church where he was a faithful member and served until his health no longer permitted.
Bro. Tommie graduated from Pontotoc Attendance Center, Class of 1966.
He attended Mississippi Valley State in Itta Bena, Mississippi. He moved to Evanston, Illinois, where he worked for CTA and Greyhound. Moving back to Ecru, Mississippi he began trucking over the road for thirty plus years.
Bro. Tommie was Chairman of the Deacon’s Ministry for many years, and also served as Sunday School superintendent and Church treasurer at St. Paul M.B. church.
Bro. Tommie was active in the Pontotoc Baptist District Association, where he served as President of the Laymen’s Auxiliary, as treasurer and assistant treasurer, and also as instructor of the Pontotoc District Congress of Christian Education teaching and serving the Deacons, both district and state level. He was the Laymen’s Vice-President and Treasurer of the Northeast Baptist State Convention.
Bro. Tommie served as the treasurer of the Pontotoc Democratic Party.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Derrick Satterwhite (Tracy) New York, Phyleccia Reed Cole (Brian) Illinois, Angelo Satterwhite (Consquilla) Pontotoc, MS, Trinia Young (Cyrus), Pontotoc, MS, Jeremy Davis (Danyelle) Austin, TX, and Laken Hilliard, Ecru, MS; his god-sons Jameel Hilliard, Tupelo, MS and Jeff Ball, Illinois; eleven grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. He is survived by sisters, Dorothy Ball, Illinois and Brenda Calamese, Ecru, MS; brothers Nimrod (Shelia), Illinois, David (Lillie), Ecru, MS, Jerry, Pontotoc, MS, and Randy (Kim) Tupelo, MS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bro. Tommie was preceded in death by his parents Ovell and Vera Hilliard; brothers Gary Hilliard, Bobby Hilliard, and James Hilliard; and sisters Fannie Whitmore and Sylvia Peoples.
Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at St. Paul MB Church, 392 Cairo Loop, Ecru, MS 38841. Funeral service will be Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul MB Church.
