Truck hits fire hydrant on NA north side

Residents in the vicinity of Madison and Cleveland streets in New Albany may be experiencing dirty water for a while.

An 18-wheeler hit and damaged a fire hydrant at the intersection in the early afternoon Wednesday necessitating its replacement.

Those at the scene speculated the truck driver was relying on GPS information that led him or her to the relatively narrow street. The truck apparently blew out a tire when hitting the hydrant.

Residents in the area were urged to let their water run to clear out any dirt or deposits before using. It was not clear when the hydrant would be replaced but water service was restored.
