Trump continues to aid, abet Israel’s military assault on Gaza despite global condemnation
During next week’s meeting of the UN General Assembly in New York, several countries – all US allies- have vowed to announce recognition of a Palestinian state. Australia, France, the UK, Canada, Belgium and Malta have moved to recognize Palestine as a direct rebuke to Israel’s actions in Gaza, which legal scholars have declared a genocide.
While the Trump administration initially pushed for a ceasefire, the White House has in recent months put itself in lockstep with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Ahead of the General Assembly, the State Department has denied visas to Palestinian officials who were planning to attend and Secretary of State Marco Rubio has chastised US allies for recognizing Palestine. Today, the US announced sanctions against three major Palestinian human rights organization for cooperating with the International Criminal Court, which has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu for war crimes.
Meanwhile, mass starvation continues to rage in Gaza. Since the US-Israeli backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation began operations in May, GHF mercenaries and Israeli soldiers working with them have killed over 2,000 aid seekers. Doctors in Gaza have noticed that snipers at GHF sites seem to target specific body parts on specific days, implying coordinated and calculated action.
Democrats in Congress recently lambasted the Trump administration for its lack of transparency with regard to US money given to GHF, as well as its catastrophic failures to ensure GHF met humanitarian standards. The Israeli military has kidnapped several Palestinians from GHF sites, apparently as part of an intelligence gathering operation. In one case, a 16-year-old boy was reportedly kidnapped, interrogated and hideously tortured for 26 days.

US sues California utility for starting deadly LA fires in January
The federal government is suing power company Southern California Edison (SCE) for damages related to the deadly Eaton wildfire in Los Angeles in January. The suit alleges that SCE’s faulty equipment sparked the Eaton fire, which killed 19 people and burned over 10,000 structures. The Eaton fire was the most destructive of several wildfires that broke out in Los Angeles and its suburbs in early January, which in total burned over 16,000 structures and killed 31 people. The suit also claims sagging SCE powerlines sparked the 2022 Fairview Fire in nearby Riverside County, which burned nearly 14,000 acres in the San Bernardino National Forest. In total, the suit seeks $77 million in damages.
Los Angeles County also sued SCE in connection with the Eaton fire back in March. Their suit indicated that witnesses and video and photographic evidence shows the fires started directly under SCE lines in Eaton Canyon. Investigations are ongoing into the causes of the Pacific Palisades fire which took place at the same time.
Negligence by power companies has long been cited as a major driver of deadly wildfires in California. Another California utility company, Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) was found responsible for over 1500 wildfires, including the 2018 Camp Fire which killed 86 people.
