Don’t forget that tomorrow, Tuesday February 24th, is a special election day for Ward three voters.

Ward 3 voters will be voting to determine who will have the opportunity of serving the remaining 31/2 years or so of former Alderman Kevin Dale White’s term. White was elected to another four year term last year, but resigned in January.  When retiring from the Holly Springs Fire Departent, White learned that he could not collect his Holly Springs Fire Department retirement funds while still working in a job that was also in the state retirement system. This included his job as Ward Three Alderman, and he resigned as Alderman on January 6, 2026.

Ward three voters will choose one of five candidates who qualified to run for the Alderman position. The candidates are Chris Buford, Franita Farr, Mark Garrett, Torrey Mitchell and Lori Sharum.  If no candidate receives more than 50% of the votes tomorrow, there will be a March 17th run-off between the top two.  There are only about 1100 registered voters in Ward Three, and less than 17% of them voted last year. This has turned out to be a fairly competetive slate of candidates. If you have a favorite, you’d better plan to vote.

All voting Tuesday will take place at the Community Center on Wilson Street, from 7Am to 7PM, as usual. Only voters registered in New Albany’s Ward Three will be voting.

Don’t forget to bring your Voter ID, and don’t lose it. This is just the first of several possible trips to the polls this year.
