Union Co. Museum 2019 Fossil Road Show, June 8
The Union County Heritage Museum’s 2019 Fossil Road Show set this Saturday June 8, 10 til 2, has a new twist this year with the addition of Family Science Day. The event will offer hands-on STEM activities and learning stations for parents and children as well as the focus on fossils.
Paleontologists from across the state have gathered at the museum for more than a decade to celebrate the rich fossil deposits which lie in the strata of Union County and the surrounding area. George Phillips, paleontologist with the Mississippi museum of Natural Science will identify fossils brought in by the public as well as present a program on dinosaurs and other fossils found locally beginning at 11 a.m. Other features of the event include gems and minerals from the Memphis Geology Society, the Geode Cracker and other who will bring collection to show the ancient treasures of the earth.
Prizes will be given for smallest fossil brought in, most exotic fossil, oldest fossil and largest fossil.
· The Family Science Day stations include:
· The Human body experiment,
· learning creating paper circuits,
· create your own harmonica,
· create your own flashlight, and
· create elephant toothpaste
The 2019 Fossil Road Show and Family Science Day is a free event made possible by the Community Partners of the museum and the volunteers who make the programming possible.
