Union Countians attend NEMCC boys’ basketball camp
Booneville, Miss. – Northeast Mississippi Community College attracted athletes from as far away as the Pelican State for its first Tiger Basketball Camp of the summer from June 6-9 inside legendary Bonner Arnold Coliseum.
Several experienced high school coaches helped National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 and District 15 Coach of the Year Cord Wright in providing guidance during the four-day event.
Players from the 2015-16 team that captured the NJCAA Region 23 championship and qualified for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament were in attendance as well to help direct the different drills and tasks.
Those that were present refined their fundamentals in order to develop proper playing habits. The companionship of other athletes and learning more about sportsmanship were additional benefits.
Boys received the opportunity to work on several techniques, including ball handling, dribbling, shooting, passing, rebounding and defensive mechanics, while participating in a fun and relaxing environment.
Campers were also pitted against each other numerous times with a set of scrimmages and competitions that put routines that were taught during practice sessions to the test.
The Tigers are one of the most tradition-rich programs in the entire nation with eight appearances at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, six NJCAA Region 23 championships and six Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) state titles.
