Union County Sheriff suspends deputy accused of striking handcuffed man

At the request of Union County Sheriff Jimmy Edwards, the FBI is investigating an incident in which a deputy allegedly struck a man in handcuffs.

The incident occurred earlier this month when two Union County deputies were dealing with a man who was resisting arrest. The Sheriff said the man had assaulted the two deputies while they were taking him into custody.

Edwards has suspended the accused deputy without pay.

“Our people in the sheriff’s department are cooperating fully with the FBI in their investigation,” Edwards told NAnewsweb.com. “There’s nothing we wish to hide. We will act according to what the investigation reveals to be appropriate.”
