NEMiss.News has been informed by New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson that the Mississippi Highway Patrol has been called in to recreate the scene of a multi-vehicle accident that occurred Saturday evening, June 24, 2023.
A Sheriff’s Deputy enroute to an unrelated accident on I-22 was southbound on MS Highway 15 at the intersection of MS Highway 30 East. The deputy was reportedly moving fast with both siren and blue lights in use. The deputy states that a vehicle with four occupants pulled out in front of him into the intersection and was struck by the Deputy’s vehicle. Extensive damage was done to the four passenger vehicle, and injuries were reported. The vehicle contained two children and two adults. The deputy received minor injuries.
A third vehicle was tangentially involved in the accident as the other vehicles were coming to rest, receiving only minor damage, with no injuries reported.
A helicopter circled the area near the intersection several times before being able to land and pick up the accident victims.
A woman and one child were airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center. The child had injuries that were not believed to be life threatening. The woman was transported as a precaution due to the fact that she is pregnant. An adult male and a second child were reportedly transported to Baptist-Union County via ambulance to be checked out.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol will be recreating the accident scene per request of the New Albany Police Department, as part of their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
