Supervisors discuss industrial parks, road construction

supervisors February 5

Development of two industrial parks was the subject of multiple agenda items at the Union County Board of Supervisors’ February 5 meeting.

Gary Chandler of the Three Rivers Economic Development District discussed projects known as “Martintown East” and “Martintown West.”
The proposed Martintown East would be on land currently owned by the PUL Alliance. That land is located behind or generally south of the VUTEQ manufacturing plant on the south side of Highway 30 West.

Martintown West is on the north side of Highway 30 West on 100 acres already owned by the county.

Three Rivers handles economic development recruiting and management for Union County under an agreement with the board. This work was formerly done by the Union County Development Association (UCDA).

Discussed was construction of a road from Highway 30 into the Martintown West property, approval of a contract to purchase land at Martintown East and advertising for bids from contractors for Martintown East.

In other action the board approved three banks — BNA Bank, BancorpSouth, and Renasant Bank — as depositories for county funds.

The supervisors approved an interlocal agreement with the City of New Albany for a Tanglefoot Trail facility adjacent to the county library.

During its 20 minute meeting the county board also handled routine items including paying the bills, approving the minutes of an earlier meeting and the road department work schedule.
