Vickie Chism, 67
September 4, 1957 – November 30, 2024
Vickie Lynn McMillen Chism passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, at the age of 67. She has suffered from a long term illness. Born on September 04, 1957, in Greenville, SC where her father served in the Navy.
The daughter of the late Julius C. McMillen and the late Maxcine Bramlett McMillen, Vickie had a strong Faith in the Lord and believed in the power of Prayer. From birth she got to travel the world while her father was in the military. For a time, they were stationed in France where her beloved brother was born. After retirement her family returned to New Albany where she graduated from W.P. Daniel High School. She worked at Irwin B Schwabe (the Shirt Factory) from 1977 – 1995. She also worked for a brief time at Miller Golf Bags in Pontotoc. Her last public job was at Wal-Mart in the Dairy Dept for 7 years. But her most precious job then became the daily caretaker for her grandson and her granddaughter.
She was a member of Calvary Church but attended Ingomar Community Church until she couldn’t attend. She then followed along on social media weekly, enjoying services from several different churches. Everyone will tell you she was the sweetest person and never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She would always pray for all that she knew needed it especially her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and niece. She collected Oriental things and angels. She loved flowers and fairy gardens. She loved to do crafting and decorating for all holidays with Christmas being her favorite.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother David Allen McMillen, paternal grandparents David and Ida Cruse McMillen, and material grandparents Clarence and Ruby Kelly Bramlett. She is survived by her only child, daughter Bridget Chism Hamblin (Tony), grandchildren, Chance and Zoee Hamblin, a niece Heather McMillen, and many cousins. She would also mention a few special people that meant the world to her during her last year, Barbara Todd, Sherry Parker, Nan Cooksey, Linda “Bo” Dodd, and Jo Anne McKnight.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 04, from 11am until service time. The service will be at 2pm. All will be held at United Funeral Service with Bro. James Rogers and Bro. Jeremiah McMillen officiating. The final resting place will be in Ingomar Cemetery. There will be no graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Foundation.
