Virginia Maxey Hillis, 99

Virginia Maxey Hillis, 99, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Magnolia Place in New Albany. She was born January 15, 1924 in Union County to Barney F. Maxey and Grace Gaines Maxey. She was a retired seamstress for Irwin B. Schwabe. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church since 1940.
She enjoyed cooking, and was particularly known for baking bread and her coconut cakes. She also was known for being a huge Ole Miss football fan. She had a loving heart and will be missed by all who loved her.
Funeral services will be at 11:00a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 at United Funeral Service with Bro. Dan Darling and Brian Porter officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00a.m. until service time. Burial will be at New Albany City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Scott Porter, Jeff Morris, John Porter, Gaylon Baird, and Scott Jordan.
Virginia is survived by her son-in-law, Darral Jordan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.W. Hillis; one daughter, Ann Hillis Jordan, three sisters, Annette Maxey Sullivan, Billie M. Holbrook and Shirley M. Jones; and one brother, Bobby Maxey.
