Walter Johnson celebrates 89th birthday having dinner with friends.
Former New Albany Mayor Walter Johnson celebrated his 89th birthday Saturday evening, March 30, having dinner with friends at a New Albany restaurant.
Johnson served three terms as New Albany mayor in the 1980s and 1990s, and served as alderman-at-large prior to his service as mayor.
He is remembered for numerous accomplishments during his time in city government. Johnson provided they key leadership for creating and developing institutions and facilities that now define life in New Albany. They include the Sportsplex and Park-Along-the-River, the Union County Heritage Museum and the Magnolia Civic Center.
