Waymon D. Gibson, 89
September 3, 1935 – May 20, 2025
TUPELO – Waymon D. Gibson was born September 3, 1935, to Joseph Hanly and Guelda Estes Gibson in Agnos, Arkansas. Waymon’s youth was full of adventure with his brothers and a sister. He graduated from Ash Flat High School in Ash Flat, Ark. Shortly thereafter, Waymon and Dolline Denton were married July 16, 1954, in Ash Flat. Together they traveled from Arkansas after growing up on the family farm tending cattle to Kansas where he worked for Love Box Company. He then transferred to Mississippi to open the paper products division of Air Cap. Later, Waymon and his brothers started Gibson Container in Verona, Mississippi and Jonesboro, Ark. In 1999, Waymon, with his sons Dale and Terry, started Gibson Corrugated in Tupelo. Waymon was at work every day possible at 4:15 in the morning overseeing many aspects of the daily running of the business. This occurred every day until his death. Waymon was highly respected and loved by the employees of Gibson Container and Gibson Corrugated, many business associates and customers. He also owned G-1Gibson Racing, a supply house providing race car parts and accessories.
Throughout Waymon’s life, he was an inspiration to many people in all facets of his life. From his love of family, his work integrity, his love of traveling and his racing life which included his own dirt track cars and traveling about the country with them, Waymon strove to always be the best. And, he was. He always encouraged folks to work harder and to do better with their lives. A genteel, generous soul, he will be greatly missed.
Rest in peace, Pap … we love you and miss you.
